Tesla Supercharger Cost Calculator
Where you plug in matters more than what you drive. Set your mix of overnight EV-tariff charging, standard-rate home charging, Supercharging and free charging to see your monthly bill, cost per mile โ and whether Tesla's Supercharging membership would pay for itself.

Not on an EV tariff yet? Most UK suppliers now offer EV tariffs with around six cheap overnight hours at roughly 7โ9p/kWh โ a fraction of the ~26p capped rate. Schedule charging in the car (or let your supplier's smart charging handle it) so it falls inside the cheap window, and push your off-peak share towards 100%. A home battery can also store cheap overnight or solar energy for the evening peak โ see the Powerwall Payback tool.
How this is calculated
- Energy = miles per month ร consumption (Wh/mi) รท 1,000. That energy is split by your mix; if the sliders don't add to 100% we scale them proportionally.
- Home charging is billed at the meter, so home kWh are increased by the loss percentage (โ8โ12% from a 7 kW wallbox) before multiplying by your off-peak or peak/standard rate.
- Supercharging is billed per kWh delivered. Your effective rate = list price ร (1 โ off-peak share ร off-peak discount), then ร (1 โ membership discount) if you have one, plus the monthly fee. Some sites bill per minute instead โ prices vary by site and time of day.
- Best case assumes every mile is charged at home off-peak on an EV tariff; worst case assumes every mile is Supercharged at your effective non-member rate.
Is Supercharging still cheaper than petrol?
Usually, but not by as much as home charging. At ยฃ0.52/kWh and 255 Wh/mi, Supercharging costs about 13p a mile โ roughly the same as a 47-mpg petrol car at 137p/L. Home charging on an EV tariff at 7.5p is closer to 2p a mile. Compare with the Petrol Savings tool.
What counts as "free" charging?
Workplace chargers, hotel or destination chargers, and any free-Supercharging credits you still have. We count the energy but not the cost.
Does charging at home all the time hurt the battery?
No โ slower AC charging is the gentlest kind. Frequent DC fast charging is fine for most owners but generates more heat. Use the charge limit your car recommends for daily driving.
