Tesla Japan has announced a new CHAdeMO adapter for owners in Japan. It is rated up to 130 kW on CHAdeMO fast chargers and goes on sale in Tesla shops starting January 2027. The old adapter topped out at 50 kW, and Tesla stopped selling it around 2024.

What changes

The adapter gives Tesla drivers access to roughly 14,000 CHAdeMO fast charging points across Japan. You can find them at convenience stores, along with highway service areas and rest stops known as michi-no-eki. Tesla's own network in Japan stands at 768 Supercharger stalls across 156 locations, so with the adapter, owners get about twelvefold more fast-charging ports to choose from than before.

Tesla's announcement on X was written in an owner's voice: "I want to charge my Tesla at a fast charger near me, too".

Price

Tesla's post gives no price. Impress Watch, in a report dated October 23, expects the Fast Charging Adapter (CHAdeMO) to cost ¥95,900. Treat that as a reported expectation, not a confirmed Tesla price.

What it means for owners

The real gain is coverage. In places where Superchargers are sparse, such as rural areas, a CHAdeMO charger near a rest stop or service area may now be a practical fast option. Tripling the old speed matters too: 130 kW against 50 kW should shorten stops, though the figure is a maximum for the adapter, and the charger on site sets the real speed. Some Nichicon chargers were capped at 20 kW before a service update, so output at a given site can vary.

If you drive long distances in Japan, the adapter could ease trip planning. If you mostly charge at home or near a Supercharger, the cost may be hard to justify. The adapter is not available until January 2027, so there is nothing to buy yet.

Other Japan notes

New Model 3 buyers in Japan can also get a Tesla charging support program worth as much as ¥264,000. Tesla Japan aims to launch FSD (Supervised) there before 2026 ends, and a Tsu Supercharger opened last month.

This applies to Japan only. The notes say nothing about other markets.
